Matthew R. Serafica of the incoming SRBCL Grade III class won the gold medal in the recently held 22nd PKF National Open Karatedo Championship held in Iloilo last April 6 – 11, 2009 and was declared National Champion in his age division.
Serafica won the gold medal in the Boys Kumite (Age Division 6- 7 years old) and the bronze medal in the same age division for Kata. The competition held at the Cabanatuan Sports Complex, Cabanatuan, Iloilo featured the skills and expertise of all the regional and club karatedo champions in the Philippines.
In the same competition, SRBCL pupils William Charles Federico U. Eden (Grade III) and younger sister Elizabeth Maude Demetria (Grade II) competed and reached their quarterfinal rounds in the Boys Kata and Kumite (Age 8 – 9) and Girls Kata (Age 6 – 7) respectively.
