Christmas 2010 at SRBCL

SRBCL for the first time in the school’s history, held separate Christmas programs for the preschool and grade school level. This was adopted to make sure that each level had more than enough time and space to showcase all the presentations that they have been laboring over the last few weeks of school before the Christmas break.

A general theme of “Jingle All the Way” guided both programs, where each presentation must have the element of a jingling instrument or upbeat Christmas carol.

The preschool level was first to have their Christmas Program last December 16, Thursday and the grade school class immediately followed the next day, December 17. Both programs were held at 4:30 in the afternoon to take advantage of the cooling December air.

The separate programs also allowed the preschool group to have a party afterwards. The children, parents and teachers enjoyed a potluck dinner after the main program. Due to numerous other concerns and appointments, the grade school level unfortunately was unable to have their own party after their program. But nevertheless, both Christmas programs achieved what was aimed for – to give the children, parents and teachers an enjoyable and memorable end to Year 2010.

Field Trip SY 2010 – 2011 – A Success

November 19, Friday was an educational and enjoyable day for the participants in this school year’s field trip to Metro Manila. The pupils were especially looking forward to this trip since more than three years have passed since the school had a field trip outside of Pangasinan.

The day started early for the 119 participants. Leaving Dagupan at 3:30 AM, many of the children did not sleep a wink even when constantly reminded of the need to rest. An early start at the Davao Crocodile Farm along Roxas Boulevard was thoroughly enjoyed by the pupils, their parents and the teachers. Their close encounter with wild animals proved both frightening and exciting. A short walk away was the Science Entertainment Station where the participants witnessed first- hand the parts of the movie making process like dubbing and the use of the blue or green screen (Chroma key). The participants also experienced having electricity coursed through them in one of the controlled activities in the center. The use of phosphorescent paint and qualities of laser lights were likewise discussed.

Within the same compound, the participants then went to Kulturang Pinoy to try out the activities meant to create more awareness for Philippine dances, festivals and games. The brief tour ended with a thought provoking video of Fr. Ariel F. Robles’ poem “Sa Aking Pagtanda.”

After a short lunch period, the group headed to the nearby Mall of Asia for the last stop in its itinerary, the Nido Science Discovery Center. The two hour tour of the facility gave the participants a chance to experience science processes first hand and had them gaping in awe at the state of the art planetarium, which featured a short film on “Cosmic Collisions.”

Probably owing probably to the planetarium’s comfortable seats or the narrator’s, Robert Redford, soothing melodious voice or the full day they’ve had, many of the participants found themselves nodding off to sleep during the thirty minute movie only to be jolted back to wakefulness. With the dome’s surround sound, the impact of colliding meteors is enough to wake even the most tired of eyes.

To round off the full-packed day, a three hour free time to roam the mall, have dinner and watch the 15-minute fireworks display was enjoyed by everybody.  The field trip officially ended at 1:00 AM, November 20 Saturday with everybody safe at SRBCL’s doorstep.

Buwan Ng Wika Celebrated

SRBCL held a week-long celebration of the national language last August 23 – 27. This year’s theme was chosen from one of the four themes proposed by the DepEd, which was “Ang Pagpapahalaga sa Wika at Pangangalaga sa Kalikasan ay Pagmamahal sa Bayan.”

The week started with the four-day talipapa or tienda of the grade school. The pupils sold native products and delicacies, the profit from which will be their class fund. The pupils gladly took turns minding their booth or going around with their bilaos hawking their wares.

A contest for the Grades IV – VI was also held where the pupils were asked to illustrate their understanding of the celebration’s theme. Four winners were chosen from the group, namely: Ggyn A. Agbayani (V), William Charles Federico U. Eden (IV), Joseph B. Gutierrez (V) and Lydia Angelika N. Platon (V). Their entries showed a comprehensive understanding of the theme and drawing skill. The four runners-up were: Mary Rose G. Aque (V), Queenie Chelzea C. Estrada (IV), Cris Adrian U. Laforteza (IV) and Jose Antonio B. Santiago (V).

A program showcasing the talents of the preschool pupils was the highlight of the week. Given merely four days to prepare their numbers, the preschoolers gamely sang and danced their hearts out for the audience comprised mainly of their parents, relatives and friends.

To round-up all the activities of the week, the grade school pupils enjoyed a whole Friday morning of Larong Pinoy, while decked out in their Filipiniana costumes. A game testing their knowledge of Sibika and Hekasi proved enjoyable but was naturally outshone by the pupils’ excitement over the galletas- eating contest and hitting the palayok/ supot.

Dental Check-Ups Held

The yearly check-ups were held last August 3, Tuesday. The school’s dentist Dr. Roque “Bo” Eugenio along with Dr. Marichu Tamayo- Lozano conducted the check-ups.

The dental check-up is one of the activities vigorously promoted by the school to increase health and nutrition awareness among the pupils. Much to the dentists’ delight none of the preschoolers showed any fear of having their teeth examined.  The whole activity went smoothly with all the pupils eagerly anticipating their turn at the “dental chair.”
