Three pupils from SRBCL became first –time math warriors in the 3rd Honda Cars sponsored Math contest for Dagupan schools last September 24, Saturday. Lance Angelo B. Elegores of the Grade II, Martin David D. Peregrino of the Grade IV and Leona Ericka B. Elegores of the Grade VI were the school’s official contestants to the affair.
With barely a week’s worth of preparations, the SRBCL pupils were overwhelmed with the kind of preparation and readiness shown by the other contestants. Not taking the results too seriously but simply vowing to learn from the experience the SRBCL pupils handled the loss with much aplomb and grace. Both the school and parents cannot ask for a better attitude from them.
Serving as the pupils’ coaches for the contest were Teachers Mirasol T. Mislang and Sheryl A. Benitez.

The school held a Pet Show last September 23, Friday. The pupils were encouraged to bring and display their pets for the day.
The obvious favorite in this year’s pet show was Lydia Angelika Platon’s (Grade VI) 6- ft. Burmese Albino Python named “Amaya”. This is the first time a pet snake was ever brought in to an SRBCL pet show and most of the children had a great time watching and touching the python. Some of the children were even bold enough to have the python draped on their shoulders.
The pet show this year boasted of different dog breeds like Chihuahua, Dachshund, Shitzu and Beagle. The very friendly dogs did not seem too bothered by the many curious hands that took turns to pet them.
The show also had lovebirds, pigeons, a rabbit, hamsters, guinea pigs, a white rat, a snail, turtles and fishes. In fact, this year’s hamsters did not only feature mature hamsters but also baby hamsters as well. Faith Eunicia Magno (Grade III) brought in her pet hamster that not more than five days before the pet show gave birth to a litter of more than a dozen.
The preschoolers particularly found the pet show helpful in their science classes which are currently discussing topics related to Animals and their Care.

A slight departure in format was quite obvious in this year’s celebration of the Buwan Ng Wika last August 26, Friday. Doing away with a purely program format, this year’s celebration adopted “Pinoy Fiesta” as its working theme.
The half-day celebration featured mini-cultural shows, where pupils of different levels showcased their singing and dancing skills, and games usually found in Philippine local fairs or perya.
Notwithstanding the rainy weather, the pupils thoroughly enjoyed participating in the games and activities. Literally a big hit among the pupils are the games; Breaking the Pot, Pabitin, Roulette, Roll the Dice, Ball Drop and Darts. Some also found much enjoyment in having temporary tattoos “painted” on their arms and faces, very much reminiscent of our ancestors’ way of beautifying their bodies.

This year’s school wide cookfest was held last August 25, Thursday. The preschool levels up to the Grade VI levels were in-charge of preparing food items to be enjoyed by everybody.
The preschool pupils each had a chance to participate in preparing delicious servings of pancakes topped with peaches and syrup and mixing their own nutritious chocolate drink.
The Grades I – III prepared snacks for the whole elementary levels while the Grades IV- VI were put in-charge of the lunch fare.
While the food preparation was underway, the Grade VI pupils took turns manning their table that held items for sale. A big hit were their previously-loved items like books and stationery items.
Generally held in July to celebrate the Nutrition Month, this year’s celebration was delayed because of class cancellations due to tropical storm Juaning.
