The grade school pupils and faculty of SRBCL visited the interactive science exhibit held at the CSI Stadia last August 8, 2011, Monday.

The visit lasted for about an hour where they were able to enjoy the different exhibits explaining scientific laws and phenomena.

This short educational trip outside of the school grounds was a welcome change from the regular classroom set-up for both the pupils and faculty.

The Intermediate grades had a tree planting activity for their HELE- TLE class. This activity is also in line with the national government’s plant a billion tree project.

The Grade IV class was assisted by the HELE teacher, Teacher Ritchelle Caguya and class adviser, Teacher Sheryl Benitez. The grade V class was assisted by their HELE teacher, Teacher Leslie Lou Salindong whiel the Grade VI class was led by their HELE teacher and class adviser Teacher Mirasol Mislang. She is likewise the school project coordinator for the tree planting activity with the Department of Education.

To ensure the preparedness of SRBCL pupils during times of emergencies like fire and earthquakes, the first emergency drill for the school year was held last July 29, 2011. All the pupils actively participated in the drill.

In connection with the national and local government’s thrust of disaster preparedness, the pupils were also briefed on the importance of being prepared for calamities. The pupils were also made aware of the different safety features in place in the school to guide and help them during emergencies.

For this school year the drill is to be conducted every other week to effectively inculcate the emergency procedures.

The national government has announced June 20, Monday as a national holiday in commemoration of Jose Rizal’s 150th birthday.

Also, the Department of Education has relayed that June 21, Tuesday is a local (Dagupan) holiday in celebration of the 64th Agew na Dagupan. All public and private elementary and secondary schools in Dagupan will have no classes on said date.

This year’s SRBCL Parent Orientation was held last June 17, Friday at 9:00 in the morning. Expectedly the number of participants is lower compared to the past years since most of the school’s populace this time around are mostly comprised of former SRBCL families.

The occasion served to welcome school year 2011- 2012 and to likewise give new families an overview of the SRBCL experience.

On the whole, the morning’s activity went smoothly and was a pleasant get together for the parents, grandparents, guardians and the SRBCL administration and faculty.

The twenty Preparatory pupils and seven Grade VI pupils of SRBCL held their Moving-Up Day on April 1, Friday at Bellarmine Hall at 4:30 in the afternoon. The guest of honor, speaker and confirming guest was Dr. William E. Macob, a well- known and respected DepEd Education Supervisor in Dagupan City.

Marching down proudly with their parents during the processional, the graduates immediately had the program rolling with their solemn interpretation of “I See You Lord” during the Doxology. Gero Sebastian S. Gubatan, of the graduating Prep class and one of its gold medalists welcomed everybody to the program. His ably delivered short message was followed by fellow classmate and co-gold medalist Anrdrei Denise V. Palaganas’ introduction of the guest speaker. A very timely and age appropriate inspirational talk was delivered by Dr. Macob urging the young graduates to soar and develop their skills and capabilities. His short reminder and words of encouragement to the parents and teachers were also much appreciated.

The graduating classes’ poem “Today’s Dreams are Tomorrow’s Successes” closely mirrored the general theme of SRBCL’s 11th Recognition and Moving- Up Day which was “Education Makes Dreams Come True.” Beatrice Hazel C. Estrada, this school year’s class valedictorian and sole gold medalists of the Grade VI delivered her Words of Thanks.

In quick succession, the graduating classes were presented to the school’s director and Dr. Macob, their graduates’ status confirmed and awarded their certificates and diplomas and their SRBCL graduate medallions. Loyalty Awards were distributed next with Nikolle Ann D. Fernandez being awarded the Gold Loyalty Award, being a pupil of the school since SY 2002- 2003. Silver Loyalty Awards were given to Beatrice Estrada and Hershey- Khey G. Soy, both of whom began their schooling at SRBCL in June of 2005. A recitation of the school’s Pledge of Loyalty and brief intermission featuring a video of the graduating pupils prefaced the last quarter of the program.

Prep gold medalist Mary Angelene U. Bernal calmly introduced the school’s director, Ms. Renee Andrea T. Aguinaldo, who, like Dr. Macob urged the pupil to make the most of their skills, to continue learning and to always do their best.

The awarding of academic medals and certificates of achievement in different areas followed next. Parents and guardians proudly accompanied their children to receive their medals, certificates or ribbons. The program officially ended with the graduates’ song, “Hold On To The Memories.”

Bravo (S), Rylee Adrian C. Dee, Karl Uriel B. Dela Cruz (G), Hans V. Ferrer (G), Gero Sebastian S. Gubatan(G), Jetson Cyril P. Labo (S) and Ralph Justine L. Ramirez for the boys; the girls are composed of Mary Angelene U. Bernal (G), Clare Ann P. Gutierrez (G), Ma. Lourdes S. Llamas (G), Andrei Denise V. Palaganas (G), Dominique V. Pitargue, Glaiza S. Reyes (G), Ryuku Aira A. Reyes, Alyssa Mari B. Santiago (S) and Franz Althea D. Tinquico.

The fifth batch of SRBCL elementary graduates is composed of:  Bryle B. Lopez, Izeiah Karl Jior Medalle, Geowela Marie M. Carrera, Beatrice Hazel C. Estrada (G), Nikolle Ann D. Fernadez, Stefi Mae D. Foronda and Hershey- Khey G. Soy.

A catered dinner for the graduates and their families followed next in the festively decorated school canteen.

The Recognition Day for non-graduating pupils at SRBCL was held last March 31, Thursday. The preschool levels had their program at 9:00 in the morning while the grade school levels had their occasion at 4:00 in the afternoon.

Aside from the customary distribution of medals and certificates of achievement in each learning and extra-curricular area like the arts and athletics, all the pupils without exception were likewise awarded ribbons for their noteworthy character traits consistently exhibited throughout the school year. And to provide the much needed break from the monotony of the awarding ceremonies, each level or grade presented lively dance numbers to the delight of their proud parents, teachers and relatives.

Gold medals are awarded to preschool pupils with a 95-point average or higher at the end of the school year while silver medals are awarded to pupils who garner a 93 general average or higher, but below 95.  The Nursery Level had 13 gold medalists and one silver medalist, while the Kindergarten class had six gold medalists and five silver medalists.

Started last school year, the grade school levels now award silver medals to pupils with a 92.5 – 94. 49 general average while pupils with a 94.5 or higher general average are awarded gold medals. The Grade I class had three gold medalists and three silver medalists; the Grade II had two gold medalists and also two silver medalists; the Grade III had five gold medalists and three silver medalists; the Grade IV had two gold medalists and one silver medalist while the Grade V had one silver medalist.

Scholastic Books Inc. held one of its on-site campus book fairs at SRBCL last February 28, Monday to March 4, Friday. The five-day event themed “Heroes” had books for every grade level and inclination or interest. Facilitating this event was Scholastic’s friendly and accommodating book fair consultants, Lea Mangle and Ronel Siobal.

Aside from the regular book sale, the book fair also featured one of Scholastic’s characters, Geronimo Stilton. The mascot came in for a short visit to the delight of all the children. A short feature of the school’s book fair in one of the local news channels also increased the children’s interest in the activity and in the celebration of World Book Day in general.

The book fair was perfectly timed with the celebration of World Book Day held last March 3 this year. Through its commemoration, UNESCO aims to promote reading, publishing and increasing awareness in the protection of intellectual property by means of copyright. It is a day meant for children to discover the happiness in reading and to gain their admiration for authors who have contributed much in the development of the written word.

The success of this year’s activity is apparent in the eager anticipation of the pupils for next school year’s book fair.

The activity most awaited by all SRBCL pupils, the annual Mini-Olympics and Family Fun Day was held last February 18, Friday, 8:00 in the morning at the San Fabian PTA Beach Resort. The whole SRBCL populace was divided into four teams with 29 members each and at least two team coaches from the faculty. This year’s teams were the Blue Dazzling Dragonflies, Red Stunning Cicadas, Green Wiggly Caterpillars and Yellow Buzzing Bees.

After ten fun but physically challenging games, the Blue Dazzling Dragonflies came out victorious. Team coaches were Teachers Aleli, Ritchelle and Leslie. The team captain was Stefi Foronda (VI) and co-captain was AJ Ponciano (V). Coming close at their heels, a mere two points away was second placer, the Green Wiggly Caterpillars. The Caterpillars were coached by Teachers Rodith and Arlene. The team captain was Hershey Soy and the co-captain was Geowela Carrera. Both girls are from the Grade VI class.

The Yellow Buzzing Bees and Red Stunning Cicadas finished third and fourth respectively. The Yellow Bees were coached by Teachers Nanette, Venus and Jessica. Their team captain was Izeiah Medalle of the Grade VI class and assigned to take over the co-captain duties during the games was Ggyn Agbayani of the Grade V class. The Red Cicadas were coached by Teachers Sol, Grace and Sheryl. Nikolle Fernandez of the Grade VI class was the team captain while classmate Bea Estrada was the co-captain. Teachers Renee, Chris and Anna were the games’ monitors and officials.

The Best Team Banner was awarded to the Yellow Buzzing Bees. Other awards were the Early Bird Award given to the Foronda family, Magno family and the Ugto family. The familes who were awarded the Best Show of Team Spirit were the Guarin family and the Ferrer family.

This year, SRBCL scored a 100% passing rate in the recently held competitive examinations for entrance at the Philippine Science High School.  First reported to pass was Stefi Mae D. Foronda and now, Nikolle Ann D. Fernandez was belatedly relayed to have also passed said examinations.

The pupils’ parents, teachers and school administration are understandably very proud of their achievement.

Nikolle is this school year’s lone Gold Loyalty Awardee in the upcoming Moving- Up Day. Her learning journey with SRBCL began during her Nursery preschool year, SY 2002- 2003. She is the daughter of Mr. Raphael and Mrs. Karen D. Fernandez.
