Grade School Pupils Attend Children’s Congress

The 2nd Children’s Congress was held at CSI Stadia last October 3 – 6. Pupils from the different public and private school in Dagupan City and nearby towns attended the affair despite the bad weather that preceded the opening of the affair.
Each Grade level from SRBCL was ferried to and from the congress so as to make sure that all grades would at least have a two-hour visit. During their scheduled visits the pupils enjoyed various activities such as participating in the games, learning a few basic martial arts steps and simply enjoying watching the different contests that were staged during the affair. Adding to their excitement were some freebies like ice cream and milk that came with their participation.
SRBCL Pupils Compete at the Children’s Congress
In line with the celebration of the 2nd Children’s Congress in Dagupan last October 3 – 6, various companies sponsored contests for the different age groups. SRBCL participated in four of these contests to afford its pupils a different kind of experience and learning opportunity.
First off the gates were Angel Rose C. Estrada’s (Kinder) and Matthew James I. Kipari’s (Nursery) participation in the Little Mr. and Ms. Lactum Pageant. Competing against seven other pairs from other schools, the SRBCL pair was especially cute in their costumes and striking pairing.
Older and more seasoned contestants expectedly won the pageant. Nevertheless, they did their parents and school proud, who both cannot help but feel a bit dismayed and cheated.
The second day of the Congress, October 4 had Queenie Chelzea C. Estrada (V) competing in the Bida Ka Kid Talent Competition. The contest was aimed to showcase the musical talents of grade school pupils. Still green in terms of contest participation, it was quite expected that Queenie performed well but not enough to beat the other more experienced contestants.
In the afternoon, an unplanned participation in the Speed Stack Contest had Grade IV Francis Aeron D. Tinquico winning his heat and doing well enough to qualify for the finals the next day.
October 5, Wednesday it was Shatze Dominique S. Ramos’ (Grade V) turn to join the Halo Halo Making Contest sponsored by Angel Milk. Shatze can be considered a more than capable “chefling” having competed in ABNS- CBN’s first season of Pinoy Jr. Master Chef and came out one of the Top 30 contenders. However, since the Halo-Halo Making Contest failed to properly monitor the contest’ progress, some of the contestants turned in finished products that were executed by their mothers or guardians much to the dismay of our young contestant, who did her product entry on her own.
In the afternoon, Francis Tinquico joined the finals heat of the Speed Stack Contest but was unlucky this time. Matched up against high school pupils, our Grade IV’s eye- hand coordination cannot be expected to do well against the nimble and sure hands of young adolescents.
The Congress also coincided with the celebration of the World Space Week. One feature of the celebration was the holding of an On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest for 8- 11 year old elementary pupils. SRBCL’s contestant for the contest was Grade V Luisita Kimberly C. Barrozo. More than 50 contestants joined the contest and Kim unfortunately did not land among the top three finishers. But she did a more than decent showing considering that this is the very first art contest she has ever joined.
On the whole, despite not landing any top spots, the SRBCL pupils were all in one in saying that the experience made them want to do better next time. Assured that the pupils have a healthy outlook and have a great handle on managing their disappointments, the school cannot be more than happy given the situation.
