The Parents Orientation Day was held last June 25, Friday at Bellarmine Hall. The program usually the first activity for any school year at SRBCL gave new families a chance to hear first hand a brief background of St. Robert Bellarmine, the saint, and the school, and also get to know all the faculty members. Attendees are also apprised of all the rules of conduct applied to all pupils at Bellarmine during the school year.
Parents were given a chance to ask questions or air out observations during the open forum. The friendly and congenial atmosphere lent itself to a very pleasant end to the activity with most of the parents choosing to linger to have private conversations with their child’s class advisers and partake of the simple snacks prepared by the school.

With the school year officially underway the incidence of airborne diseases dramatically increases. In a school setting where children are at close proximity to each other, one of the steps that SRBCL took this school year to mitigate said increase was educate its grade school populace of the different illnesses that they were most likely to contract in public places.
During the first week of classes, a Powerpoint lecture on AH1N1, Malaria and Dengue was given to the graders. They were made to understand the different illnesses, its symptoms and preventive measures. The graders showed much interest in the topic and were more than willing to follow the simple preventive measures that were enumerated for them like proper hand washing.
The next lecture that was scheduled for them is making them aware of the dangerous effects of smoking even to children like them who are non- smokers but are exposed to second hand smoke. The graphic pictures of diseased lungs was more than enough to have the children swear not even to try smoking or to be more vigilant of people who smoking in prohibited places like schools and malls.

The school year for SRBCL officially opened June 16, Wednesday. Initial count for the year shows a modest increase in the school’s population from last year’s number.
The graders, the kinder and prep pupils, most of whom are former SRBCL pupils only had a half day orientation while the Nursery level had a three day orientation considering that this is their first formal schooling experience.
Most of the pupils showed willingness to start the school year and were pencil ready during the first day of class.
