Green Crocs Win by the Slimmest Margin

Mini Olympics Collage

A single point spelled the difference between the championship and runner-up places in the 2009 SRBCL Mini Olympics and Family Fun Day  held last February 27, Friday at the San Fabian PTA Beach Resort. Getting the upper hand was the Crafty Green Crocs led by team captain Marc Daniel D. Peregrino (VI) and ably assisted by co-captain Charina D. Pinlac (V) and coached by Teachers Diane E. Aguinaldo and Nanette S. Padlan.

Runner-up team this year was the Jolly Red Foxes led by team captain Klarisa Miakela L. Reyes (VI) and co-captain Jann Adrian C. Quinto (V). Team coaches for the Foxes were Teachers Rodith C. Veloria and Aleli Jel R. Mejia.

A see-saw battle for first place between these two teams was immediately apparent from the first game, giving the other two teams in competition a difficult time to break through. The teams placing third and fourth respectively were the Amazing Blue Dolphins led by team captain Raymond Alfred P. Bernal (V) and co-captain Arlean Liabelle P. Lomboy (V), coached by Teachers Mirasol T. Mislang and Ritchelle S. Caguya; and the Raging Yellow Leopards led by captain Diane Samantha M. Sta. Maria (V) and co- captain Edward Joseph M. Rosario (V), coached by Teachers Ramil G. Eugenio and Leslie Lou B. Salindong.

The Leopards though coming fourth in the games division of the activity was chosen and declared the winner in the Best Team Banner category, outpacing the other three teams with their visually arresting banner. A unique banner presentation enabled the Leopards to distance themselves a few paces from the well-crafted banner of the Foxes, the cool and refreshing colors of the Crocs’ banner and the delightful Dolphins’ banner.

And for the first time individual events were also introduced in the activity. Sprinting contests were opened to all interested participants in all grade levels. John Marek P. Palaganas of the Grade IV came out victorious in the Grades IV – VI Boys division and his classmate Hershey-Khey Soy won the Grades IV – VI Girls division. AJ Ponciano of the Grade III won the sprint contest for the Grades I- III Boys division, in a field of mostly Grade III boys.

The team members of the Green Crocs, the Games Champion who participated were: Von Mark Vicente (VI), Marek Palaganas and Izeiah Medalle of the Grade IV class; Thomas Joey Fernandez, Angela Kyle Barrozo, and Ericka Elegores of the Grade III class; Cris Adrian Laforteza, Jamina Joaquin, and Charlene Joy Sta. Maria of the Grade II class;  Chester Villanueva, Elizabeth Eden, and David Peregrino of the Grade I class; Deanne Reign Torio from the Preparatory Class; Kindergarten Johnel Austria; and Gero Gubatan, Zsigmund Arce, Glaiza Reyes, Kurt Barlongo, Timothy Kipari, Alyssa Santiago, and Lawrence Delos Santos of the Toddler- Nursery classes.

SRBCL Karatekas Harvest Medals Anew

karate2

karate1

All four SRBCL pupils who competed in the 2nd Mayor Pablo Ortega Cup were successful in bringing home medals, doing their parents and the school extremely proud. The karate competition was held last February 7 at the Ortega Gymnasium in San Fernando City, La Union.

Youngest of the lot but certainly not the least timid is Christian Judge J. Decano of the Prep class. Christian has been training for less than a year and now has two medals to show for his efforts. Christian won a bronze medal in kata and a silver medal in kumite. He competed in the boys division for 5-6 years old.

The only girl of the group, Elizabeth Maude Demetria U. Eden is from the Grade I class. She proved victorious in both the kata and kumite events, winning the gold medal in the girls division 5-6 years old. Going head to head with girls more than a foot taller than her proved no hindrance to our precious lass.

Our original karatekas, the boys of the Grade II class, William Charles Federico U. Eden and Matthew Jose R. Serafica once again showed their karate skills. Topping most of their competitors who were at least three belts higher than them, William won silver medals in both the kata and kumite events, while Matthew won a bronze medal in kumite. Both boys competed in the 7-8 years old boys division.

The efforts of these SRBCL students contributed to their team’s eventual success, bagging the much coveted overall champion of the competition.

The success of the whole team is of course largely attributed to the kids’ warrior hearts, Dr. Enrico Vasquez, their sensei, and their parents’ unwavering support and encouragement.

SRBCL Teachers Attend Abiva Seminar

SRBCL intent on ensuring its teachers’ continuing education fully supported the teachers’ interest in being part of Abiva Publishing House’s seminar held last February 7 in Baguio City.

The whole-day seminar was held at St. Louis Center and tackled various learning areas in both the elementary and high school levels. Eight teachers took part in the seminar, ensuring that SRBCL had at least one representative in all the topics covered during the simultaneous sessions.

Teacher Renee Aguinaldo, our directress attended the seminar with the teachers, along with Teacher Chris Aguinaldo, SRBCL’s assistant administrator. The teachers who attended the seminar were Teacher Anna Aguinaldo in SRA Reading- Elementary, Teachers Diane Aguinaldo and Rodith Veloria in Elementary Mathematics, Teachers Aleli Mejia and Leslie Salindong in Elementary Science and Teachers Nanette Padlan and Ritchelle Caguya in Elementary Filipino.

The new learning and expert input the teachers got from the seminar are aimed to improve classroom teaching and in enriching the teachers’ skills, not only as an educator but as an individual as well.
